I did a lot of mods on this car and its (as far as i know) the only one in Europe.

The only thing bad at the moment is, that the pistons rings are broke and have to be replaced.

I sell the car with all spare parts i have (OEM Shocks, OEM springs, OEM Frontbumper, OEM Header, OEM Differential etc......)

Nothing else makes you look cooler and ensures a troublefree free ride while the sun is burning.

About a week ago i got some new ones of the Daniel Hechter Collection. Costs "a bit" more, but its worth the money.

3 Sings that something is wrong

1. A big cloud of smoke comming out of the exhaust
2. You need 2l of oil for only 30 kilometers
3. There is plenty of oil around the turbocharger

When all this happens you have different options

1. Buy a big barrel of oil and take it with you
2. Driving the car against the wall next best
3. Get the turbocharger repaired
4. Do nothing and let car just where it is

I hate problems..... ok ok... i hate costly problems.

The good thing: The exhaust now has a nice note and doesn't make your ears want to fall off.
The sad thing: The bumper needs a rebuild, there are little cracks everywhere in the paint, the paintjob on the bumper hasn't been really satisfying from the beginning and now it caught me. I think i need the complete car wraped.

The exhaust is done, the car is rollin' and everybody in the radius of 100km noticed that. We hoped that all the small holes we drilled into the new piping of the muffler gives enough absorption to dampen the sound as much as needed, but that didn't really work. 2 matching universal silencers are already on the way and should give the car a bit of peacefulness.

For the moment: STAY FAR AWAY IF YOU HAVE RECONDITIONING EARS!!!!!!!

I gave the car some autobahn runs so the paint could harden. I have never seen people looking that early in the rearview mirror Everyone has gone out of my way before i was even close to them.

We started building the midpipe today, but we only were able to finish it to 80%. The silencer i ordered doesn't fit really good and hits the drivetrain on some points, so.... it has to go. The new plan: a straight 3" pipe.
Also we gave the exhaust tips a new finish.

With all the work done on the muffler it was time to make sure that rust has no chance in the future.

Me and a friend saved a bit of time to start converting the REMUS muffler. Didn't expect that REMUS, a "professional" company, builds crap like this. It looked like the welding was done by a blind, who had no arms and had to weld everything with his mouth.... unbelievable.

Planned is a 3" inlet which ends in a 2x2" outlet. Too bad we hadn't all the parts with us.

So here are the results.... ok.... halftime in the finishing process

The last days i have been pretty buisy. Right at the moment i should be on the dyno and get some data from the ride.... but.. less time, much work.

The last interior-parts are at the paintshop and the upholsterer. The exhaustparts have arrived. The Remus muffler has been cut open to be transformed and and and and...

Most of the parts i'll get back tomorrow, hopefully. So the interior is done... you heard it, done!!!!!

The exhaust will be transformed to a full 3" exhaust. The Remus muffler is empty at the moment but will be filled with a nice 3" to 2x2" piping. To stay quiet, a 24" long and 3" large SIMONS silencer will be installed at the place where the OEM pre-silencer did its job. The catalyst will loose a bit of its lentgh to fit with the 3" piping. Can't wait to hear the results.

Hmmm..... nothing more to say. Let's get back to work.

Accessories - Not needed things you need.

I have tested about 4-6 different shiftknobs (MOMO, Voodoo, Mazda, selfmade, OMP) and can't stop it. Maybe the Sparco OLD-R will prevent me from buying more and more of these knobs. The OLD-R lengthens the shifter, good for racing, so you don't need to move your hand the "long" way to the knob "far" away from the steering wheel.

Also i'm happy about the new gloves, as the old ones went up in flames..... yeah it was hot, hotter than Verena Mei drifting.

So, whats next?

After a little accident with my bike and an influenza, i'm healthy enough for recieving and driving my car. Picked it up yesterday evening and took it out for a longer drive to get myself used to the car again. Didn't remember that the clutch was that hard to use. Stalled the car about 3 times, that was a bit embarrassing, because it happened during the rush hour.... hey, nobody's perfect.

There a few things left to do, but these aren't big jobs:

-Getting rid of the faux cf in the interior (photoshoped it over the whole interior, doesn't look the way i hoped to)
-Installing the last leatherparts (gauge-cover, better armrest, brown shift- and e-brake-boot, new e-brake-handle)
-Finishing the custom 2-gauge-mount
-Painting the leftover aluminium-look parts
-Playing around with vinyl
-Doing heat-isolating stuff in the engine-bay
-Refinish or remove the eyelids
-Maybe installing some Corbeau seats for a beter sitting position (haven't measured anything yet)

Now i could tell you how great the car goes, but see for yourself: (It's running on smaller winter tires)

The mic of the camera has problems with the vibrations caused by the stiffer motormounts, sry for that.

The sticker adds 20hp and some kind of coolness.

New Parts, No car

Today the new brown leather shift- and ebrake-boot arrived. The brown matches perfectly with the seats, steering wheel and doorpanels. Hope this will give a bit more variety to the interior, as i try to keep only three colors, gold, black and brown. Next week the leather-parts for the gauge-cover and some better side-armrests from Redline Goods will arrive.

I'm still sick , but it's getting better and better. Maybe in a few days we can have a car-driver-meet-again.

.... and i'm beaten. The big bad influenza got me hard. Many people these days are infected and the serum is in short supply, so it's time for the good old homespun remedies: Tee with honey, salty sticks, coke and everything you can get from the pharmacy.
25 years without any influenza and now i'm not a virgin anymore.

After many weeks of small problems we got the car running well (faster then we thought). Drives good, accelarates fast, makes fun, and sounds great. Now the car gets tothe mot for the street-legal-stamp. When this is done, my beloved car needs to get intensive cleaning :).

The car runs.... i'm so happy about it, it took three days and nights to sort the problem out and it was so simple, you would never never never never never never never never never ever think of it. It was not a fallen off connector, overheated device, burned cable, wrong connected piece or anything you would imagine.

It's also way too ridiculous to tell, as nobody would ever believe it.

Big thanks to Stephanie (BEGI) and George (also has the BEGI S3), who helped sorting out the problem.

The solution was just a lucky try of people who ran out of ideas and knowledge.

What's wrong with the world? Everytime you are close to finish something, another something shows up and tries to make you mad.

Yesterday we went down the roads to fine-tune the car. Everything was great, the car was running good and really fast. The only thing needed to be corrected, was the backfire. It sounded like someone shooting at you (like in the video of the last post). The backfire was almost gone, than we needed better data to do the final tune. We stopped on side of the road and started a data-log.... and then it happend... The software crashed. No problem, restarting the aplication and everything will be fine... hahahahahaha... you wish. The software came up and the maps showed 0 in every performance graph. The car did start, but everytime you touched the gaspedal the engine died.
Trying to do a little maf-map to have the option to drive back to the garage didn't work. We gave up. Some minutes later, we started the car and everything seemed to be ok to drive, not well but ok for 5mph. We reconnected the laptop and the maps were back... WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?. But something was still wrong, as we could not really drive with it.
We tried to open the backup-file BEGI sent us with the kit, but everytime you try opening a map (also self saved maps), the application crashes (later BEGI sent us the data again via e-mail.... same problem). So it's impossible to get back to the basic settings. It's frustrating, the car ran, then you want to make a data-log and everything is fucked up? What gives?
Could kill myself, really. ARGH!!!!!!!!!

I have devil of toothache, so i keep this post as short as i can.

Everything is put together and ready to get adjusted. Maybe we install some different spark plugs, thats why the strutbar is still missing. I added a little video you can watch, if you are interested in what the car sounds at the moment. I'm the camera-guy so don't wonder about the not-so-good-fitting guy in the car, but hey.... he has his 1200whp Supra.

So from the four people starting the install, we are down to two since wednesday last week. Marc and me. He is a genius and i'm like his apprentice in his first months, but we'll finish it.
There are a few things to do, but the engine got his first launch, just for some seconds to run the turbo with oil before connecting the the extra oil-cooler. It was so great to hear the engine running, it's the first sign of getting closer to the finish-line.

So let's see what happened.

The interior:

The custom gauge-mount. It just like the original side-panel, it snaps on und off, and YES, the glovebox still opens the normal way.

The trunk has it's new strut-brace and the battery.

The in-out-side:

The cool coolers. In front is the intercooler for the turbo, behind of it is the extra oil-cooler.
Radiators look so sporty, you can not have enough of 'em.

Can you see it? It's a turbo down there, a bit camera-shy, but it's there.

The new motor-mounts and a part of the "not yet done" exhaust.

To prevent leaking we sealed the oildrain, we tried to weld it ourselfs, but we are too stupid to weld aluminium (more in the post before), so we took some liquid metal to seal. I like exothermic reactions.

And again, a list of things wich have to be done (a bit more detailed)

-Welding the exhaust incl. the catalyst
-extending the lambda-connectors
-putting the wastegate-spring-adjuster of the boost-controller in place
-wraping the gauge-mount with faux cf
-putting the braces, bars and bumper back on
-finding out to wich parts all those leftover screws belong
-adjusting the ecu-map
-getting the car to the MOT

.....except on the days you have to trust people you don't know. It would have been no problem to fire up the car yesterday, but without oil and everything the engine would really fire up. The welder, who promised to stop by to weld the aluminium-connections on the oil-pan, went away. Canceled and ignored calls... nobody knows whats wrong with him, noone fooled him but he is totally pissed off and agressive. Tomorrow a friend of mine will drive with me to the labor and try to weld everything whats left.

The good news are, that the only things left are the exhaust and the connection on the oil-pan. After that is done, the car is ready to get adjusted, but every day of delay brings us closer to the below zero temperature days and thats not that good. I have no winter-tires on my car and after the install the car needs go to the MOT for some days.

So time running and running and running......

Meanwhile a litte photoshop on a friends complete black Audi TT, who is looking for a ABT-like design on his car.

The install goes faster than everyone of us has expected. The wiring is complete, the new and unfortunately smaller washer reservoir tank is installed and customized to work with washer-nozzles of the xenon-hids, the extra oil cooler is in place, the boost-controller is ready, all turboparts are ready to run. So what is left?

-The gauges have to be connected with the wiring,
-The exhaust with the new catalyst has to be weld,
-On friday a friend of a friend comes by to weld the connectors on the oilpan (noone of us has the skills to weld aluminium) to prevent leaking,
-The battery in the trunk needs to be grounded and the covers need to be cut to fit with the rear strut bar,
-The turbotimer needs to be installed,
-Refill all fluids...
Oh... and one of the most important things left is the re-wrap of the eyelids :D

Everything points on saturday for the first testdrive. Let's hope everything is working correct.
I'll will post a video of the first start-up if i don't forget my camera, that happens too often the last days.

A short update on the progress

After two days we are almost done with the install of the turbokit. There are some differences between the US and the European version of the MX-5. The wiring of the ECU, the washer fluid reservoir tank and catalyst. The biggest problem is the reservoir tank, i need to get one from the US or fit a universal tank. Let's see what the Mazda-dealers can do for me.

The idea from BEGI to wire the positive line along the underbody is pretty easy to do, but also has some important cons. So the alternative solution is to got through the car and that also easyli done. For my luck they had a big alpine-cable in their storage. It's also much thicker than the one wich came with turbo-kit, what gives a bit more safety.
I also installed the Beatrush rear shock tower bar.

Here some other pics of the progress, many things are done and a few things have to be done, but i guess we are ready for a "adjustment-drive" on saturday.

I'm still waiting for the injectors and the Xede-unit to be delivered, so i decided to come up with some new decals. Was a hell of work to vectorize the most logos as i'm not that familiar with illustrator. A few logos are still missing, but i have to think about where they have to go on the car.

Until this is figured out i installed the windshield-decal and the Chargespeed Gekisoku decal on the side. Of course the white decals on the sidewindows have to go, but it was a lazy day. :)

Let the fun begin

After a lot of months and going mad meanwhile, everything is ready to tubocharge the little beast.

The checklist:

BEGI S3 Turbo Kit - check................ ehm wait a moment.... where is the Xede unit and the injectors? Ah, ok... they'll arrive in a few days. - check
AEM uego wideband lambda - check
AEM Truboost - check
RaidHp EGT gauge - check.... the gauge looks totally boring compared to the AEM ones, so i completely dextroyed and put it new together to get the same look as the AEM ones, wasn't easy to find a single black ring from an AEM gauge.
Apexi Turbotimer - check
Freaked out mechanics - check

Gaugemounts - ............. hmmmm there are no aftermarket gaugemounts available for the NC except the one from Blitz wich mounts in the middle on top of the dashboard, wich is totally functional, but also toally ugly in my case. What about putting alle 3 gauges in the ventholes... just totally stupid to close them all and also you have to spin your head all the time to keep an eye on them. Maybe if you put one gauge in the doorside venthole on the driverside, but then there are at least 2 gauges looking for a nice and comfortable home. The idea... trying to build something out of nowhere, what looks good, doesn't destroy the nice shape of the cocktpit, it's in an acceptable viewing range and also it should nothing to be drilled or sawed. After almost 2 months of getting an idea for a thing like that i found the perfect place. So I made a custom 2 gauge-mount out of right sidepanel of the radio, was a bit bitchy to get the perfect shape so that i can still open the glove-box, but it worked. And the best things are that you can easily pop it of like before and work in that area and it doesn't impede the co-driver. I'll post some pictures of it when my camera gets back from the repair. So.... - check

So everything is checked and the launch for the install is on friday.

NC gets off the street and in the game

The new NFS - Shift features a 2008 Mazda MX-5 PRHT, of course i had to buy it. I like the way the game-series is going this time. It's not the perfect simulation like GTR2 (has a modification that allows to drive an MX-5), but it gets really close to it and has at least better graphics.

Install was easy, things work, so hmmmmmmm...... Check out the pictures. i don't think that i have to tell something about them. :)

Installed a starter-button (not so usefull)

Footwell light installed (usefull for those passangers who have problems getting in the car when it's dark outside)

New Pipe, new ride

A few days ago the postman was banging my door and had a nice package for me.

The long awaited midpipe. The install was pretty easy, but i had to cut the oem midpipe. This made really a big difference to the exhaust sound. It's real sporty now and thanks to the Remus muffler the volume is adjustable :)

Also since a few days i'm again able to race through the tighter alleyways and streets of the city. The mountains should be scared aswell.

OS Giken Superlock LSD

We compared three MX-5 NC 2008 with different differentials. A 5spd 1.8l stock non-LSD, a 5spd 2.0l stock LSD and a 5spd 1.8l OS Giken Superlock LSD (same tires on every car).

First Test: Cornering (tight and wide corners)

The 1.8l non-LSD lost most of its agility on tight corners, you can feel how it's braking the car down with a lot understeering, on wide corners it felt a bit rough and like giving away most of the speed for staying in a good line. It was almost impossible to get fast out of the corners, when you step on the gas at the apex the rear-end moves a little bit and that’s all it does, no acceleration.

The stock LSD and the OS Giken LSD were much better to drive, on the entry of the corner you throw the car in a perfect position while keeping the speed and then on the apex, you step on the gas and shoot out to the corner exit. And here is the difference between the stock and the OSG LSD. The stock LSD feels good but not so precise like the OSG. The higher the speeds, the bigger is the difference. The border area of the OSG stays over the one the stock LSD has, it has also a wider range which means you have the ability to play a bit more with the rear end and it also gives a saver feeling because it's much smoother to drive.

Second Test: Slalom - AutoX (or whatever you want to call it)

Here we can go with the same experience we had from the cornering-test. As the OSG is more precise and could be driven a bit faster than the stock LSD. You can simply make your way through the course. I have driven every car 15 times through the course and the best results of each car showed a difference of:

OSG LSD : 00:01:25
Stock LSD : 00:01:28 -00:00:03
Non LSD : 00:01:35 -00:00:10

Third Test: Going sideways (or THE FUN PART)

Non-LSD.... forget it. Except you only want to do some little powerslides.

Many videos showed that it's not so easy to go sideways with the stock MX-5. So I put the OSG LSD from the test car into my car (also a 1.8l), which has customized springs and shocks, aftermarket braces and strutbars, better stabilizers and many other things.

I called around to find someone with 2.0l MX5 with stock LSD but similar modifications, and found someone after two days.

I really don't know if it was the difference of the cars but the only difference I could mention out was that it was easier for me to initiate the drift with the OSG LSD. Really strange, because the 2.0l has a bit more power than my car.

Best way to get into a drift was weight-transfer or clutch-kicking.

What a small result in this test compared to the work before.

Carbon here, carbon there, carbon almost....

After the hood and the trunklid got wrapped with carbonfiber i thought it would be cool to also have this on the inside of the car. It's a good way to hide some small scratches and the structure makes it a bit more noble.
The rest of the interior will be done step by step.

I played around with the voodoo knob, but it didn't last a day, everything weld of.

Wrapped the hood and trunk

Today i was on to meet the owner of 2M-Designs to get my hood and the trunk wrapped with some "carbonfiber".

The cool thing of the tape he used is that it isn't a carbonlook printed tape it's faux cf. You can feel and see the structure and you know what? It feels sexy.

I realy like the look of black, chrome and brushed aluminium, also grey is great, but i LOVE Carbon. No other material has this deep going look.
I saw many dashkits transformating the boring plastic dash into a neat carbon-look one. The only problem was, that i didn't find more detailed pictures and information on how the they fit and all.
As the price wasn't that high i decided to buy one and check myself.

The first thing to say about that is, that some parts really look cool, but others are a horrible no-go.
Dashkits are not interchangeable parts, they only go over the stock-interior.

Installing a Dashkit is as easy as putting a tiny sticker onto your car.

Take a look and decide yourself if you like it or not:

This is how you can protect flat things, when shipping them overseas.

All those snatches of the cover aren't a result of cutting it with the knife.

The carton was glued to hold everything in place. Strange solution, but it worked :)

The kit covers most of the console.

The only thing disturbing are the ventholes, maybe i'll cover them with a black film.

The storage between the seats is the best looking part, i guess it's because of the big area.

Before i forget. After 6 months of owning the car and driving realy much, i destroyed even 3 floormats. And premium ones are expensive. An aluminium floormat (for me it's more a cover)
is killing this problem now.

AWD, I.L. and Ipod

While i'm waiting for the turbo-modification i get bored so i needed to do something.

I always didn't like to burn some mp3s on a disc and play it, because you aren't flexible with it, everytime you buy some new songs, you have to burn a new cd. So i decided to give the aftermarket Audiolink a try.
A realy nice tool. The best thing is, that the main part (the link itself) has 3 different ports, one for the Ipod connector, a "line-in" and a port for a bluetooth-dongle or usb-port. So you don't have to buy the whole package again and again.
It also usefull to take a look at the manual to get to know what all those fancy letters in the display are for.
The installation is as easy as it could be, just remove your audiosystem from the console, connect the link at the back, bring everything in position and listen to your stuff.

This goes also well with center-console-storage from I.L. wich has a whole on the side where you can stick through the conector for the Ipod. As you can see in the pictures, i upgraded the center-console with a armrest, also from I.L.. More comfort for the mass.

A while back i ordered some gauge-bezels of AWD from Miata-Roadster.net and today i gave it a quick install, looks good and gives a more different touch to the whole gauge. But i think i have to get rid of all the chrome in the interieur, but that will be a job for the next days. I also think about removing to pilot-lights of the indicator.

Breaking faster, shifting harder....

Three days ago some new stuff has been installed, wich made a totally difference in driving the car

So here we go:

-EBC Turbogroove Brake Rotors (2xfront)
-EBC Heavy Duty Kevlar Brake Pads
-Stainless Steel Brake Lines
-ACT Stage 2 Clutch Kit

The new rotors look very good on the car, this gives the whole thing a much more sporty look. Maybe i get the rear rotors too, just for the greater look. Also the kombination of those rotors, kevlar brakepads and the stainlees steel brakelines does very well, the car goes from 100 to nothing in just a tick. In case of emergency tis will give me some lifesaving meters.

The new clutch-kit is a thing for itself. I think this mod will only make sense if you drive race cars most of the time or if you pump up the power of your car, you have to push the pedal 3-4 times harder as with the stock parts, also the grinding point is much smaller now. After the 3 days running with the clutch and the pressureplate i have become accustomed with it and it feels like stock for me and i can switch the gears much faster.

Time for another modification. It doesn't give you horsepower or upgrades the handling or let your car look like a McLaren F1, but it gives a different touch to the interior.

I tried a few times to make a gauge myself, but i didn't get the perfect scaling or the look i wanted after it was printed. As the paper ran out i decided just to buy one in case of spending another 40,- € in paper and plenty of hours in work.

I.L. Motosport offers 3 different gauge faces, not that much, but they all look great and fit perfect.
The installation is as easy as you could think of. Took about 30 minutes to dismount, change the gauge face and mount it back at its place.
There are many guides on miata.net on how to remove the whole gauge. Decomposing the gauge itself doesn't need any guide (4 Screws on the back, some clips on the inside).

So let's see what it looks now:

Boring Mondays...

Sun outside, tank is full, but there was something about this day i could not discribe..... just got bored by nothing to do.

Surfing around the internet on some forums and parts-stores... hmmmm... a painted valve cover... looks good. Let's get things going.

Went to of the local tool-stores and bought 1 can of fire-red and 1 can of clearcoat, does 5,98 €.

Time to Start:

Painting the area of the part wich covers the valves. Coat by coat.

After 3 hours.... not ready yet, needs to dry out.

After 6 hours, back under the hood.

What a luck, same color as the strutbar. WOOHOO!!

This is what people do when they get bored............... not everyone i think.

A few days ago, one of the best, cheapest, usefull and cool looking accessories arrived from the US.

The Cool Breeze Scoop!

Never thought that a inconspicuous little thing like this can satisfy me that much. Drove around many kilometers with, on really really (YEAH i said it twice, so can imagine it better) hot days and you won't believe it, 30°C burning down from above, but..... no need to turn on the A/C with this little thing attached blowing fresh air right into the car, without blowing your head off.
Tested it up to 200 km/h and it fits like its screwed to the body, it wasn't even vibrating/shaking/rattling or what ever.

Many thanks and two thumbs up to the inventor.

The last day i took another drive around the province i live in. Never thought that a state with so much citys could have a landscape like this. The days before the MX-5 came into my life a drove only highways..... self blame....

As the car will be tuned to about 300hp and much more torque i will put also some money in making things a bit saver for driving.

At first, the brakes get Stonger by some EBC Rotors, Stainlees Steel Brake Lines and Kevlar Brake Pads. Hope that the new brakepower will be worth the price.

I don't know how much torque the OEM Exedy Clutch can take, but i think it's better to change to a sports clutch. The choice went to a ACT Sage 2 Clutch Kit an will take about 500nm of torque.

Also for a better traction, i was looking around for some good LSD's.
There are so many of them you can buy.
OS Giken, Tomei, RX-8, MazdaSpeed etc......
Dunno wich one to order yet. I need to get more information, about Visous and Torsen LSD's.

The Flywheel flew away

About a week ago i had time to install the Fidanza Flywheel i purchased at Good Win Racing.

The OEM flywheel is realy heavy i thought my arms would fall off :)

What was the reason to change the flywheel:

Better acceleration
Better fuel economy in the city
Better reaction to the pedal

Many people talked about a rattling noise comming from the drivetrain after installing the flywheel, i guess they ain't lucky, because i didn't manage to hear any rattling noise, i also tried to listen to it as the centerconsole was removed... no noise.

It drives quite well and starting off feels the same as before, the acceleration improved a bit, slowing down with the engine brake lost its strength. Fuel economy realy improved, saves now almost 1 Litre per 100km at the inner city, climbing up hills at top speeds (190km/h) isn't possible anymore highest speed possible to me was 170km/h.

All in all, I am very satisfied.

The MX-5 NC Niseko came with some chromed accents on the outside, but not a chromed fuel lid... Strange thing, because it would look so much better.

Thanks Mazda-Parts dealers we have the option to upgrade the boring carcolor fuel lid with the chromed one from the special editions. Doesn't cost that much and the look is worth the price.

Thanks to Russ from Japan, who gave me the hint where to get those nice looking mirrors.

Every time another MX-5 owner sees them, they are asking me where to get those. At this point i tell them to take a look at Neweraparts.com. When they recognize the price they are loosing attention, but i think this is worth the money.

The install is so simple, a monkey could do it.

Some days ago, i went to my local partsdealer and picked up my new wheels. It was a looooooooong journey befor i decided to take the ones i have right now.

There so many good looking wheels out there, like the Barracuda Tzunamee, Antera Iforge, O.Z. Ultraleggera etc.....

I didnt' want to go with the mass, so i was looking around for something special. At a restaurant near home i saw a Subaru Impreza WRX STi with it's bronze wheels and remembered the time i was so fascinated by them.
The MX-5 is a sporty car, but also has an elegant design. So i played around in Photoshop to test some wheels again and again, but only with some gold/bronze colors. The next they i went to my dealer and wanted to ask him about some wheels, and there was it..... laying on the floor, waiting for new owner... the O.Z. Chrono HT Black. Then it was as simple as it could be.. just ordered the O.Z. Chrono HT Race Gold 8,5x18.

Now a wheel does nothing without a tire surrounding it. I was told by many people not to buy the Yokohama Parada, but they didn't know that Yokohama released a new Parada (Spec-2).
They fixed the problems that came with the Spec-1 and build a realy good Street/Racing-tire.
So i had to take a set of them: 225/35R18

After 5 minutes of driving, they grip that much, even a tank won't get me off the street.

Time to take a look:

I like how they interplay with the black color of the car and the brown color of the softtop and interieur.

After all those work on the exterieur and suspension, the interieur should not be omitted.

There a few things that suck:

- The cupholders in the centerconsole
- The shiftknob (jus personal feeling)
- The non-variable wiperswitch
- No armrest
- The cheap looking brakehandle
- The fast dissolving floormats
- Some smaller pedals would be nice too

Nothing wich can't be fixed.

Some chrome to the interieur would be nice, as i like the interplay of chrome and aluminium.

The install of those parts ain't worthy, because most of them are just snapped on.

Nice to see what is under the console :)

20 minutes later a had place for my sunglasses, i had to wait for the Voodoo-Knob so i took the old MOMO i had in my Prelude

The important variable wiper-switch, thanks to the RX-8

Handling out the handling

The handling of a stock MX-5 is just awesome, it corners quickly and comfortable, also rough streets don't feel that evil. But like on every other car, it feels to soft for my conditions.

So lets see what we can do:

-Coilovers..... hmmmm..... A good thing, as you can adjust everything you want
-only the Shocks.... Maybe also a good thing, but as they aren't adjustable in many point you
have to find the ones for your needs
-other Springs.... i already have some good ones, wich also improved the handling a bit
-Braces.... make the car stiffer and reduces the "wabbling", but are so many :)
-Sway bars.... reduces the bodyroll and give a better cornering

I friend of mine used to sell his MX-5 NC and he had adjustable Koni Shocks installed, i remembered how good his car handled with them. His MX-5 was build back to stock, so i can give the konis a try :) good news to me. At I.L. Motorsport they offer a complete set of braces to a really good price, the bad thing (and that's the only), there is no rear upper strutbrace. They also offer some good aluminium sway bars, so i had to add them to the chart.

Now let's see what we have to improve the handling

- Koni Shocks (customized not the normal aftermaket ones)
- H&R Springs (also customized by the manufacturer)
- A set of braces (FSTB, FLB, CCB, RLB, PPFB)
- Alumiun Sway Bars

Time to install:

After that, i was driving around many time to get the right adjustment to the koni shocks, but after this was done.... WOOOHOOOO The car reacts so perfect to what you do on the steering wheel, on corners it hovers around. I don't know if it's just an illusion, but braking and accelerating feels mor comfortable know. I guess a coilover would be better, but it seems to be perfect for me now.
The only negative what came with, is that rough streets now feel like rough streets.

The next mod applied on the car was the new frontbumper from I.L. Motorsport called MPSNC2. There are two version available, with or without an intakehole. I took the one with the hole, so there was need to install a CAI anymore and the sound the "suck"-hole produces is very very nice. Sounds like the car wants more and more and more and more and more and then.... you have to shift :)

Also some eyelids were installed to complete the look.

Zoom Zoom goes Vroom Vroom

As the MX-5 is a sports car i thought it has to sound like that. I looked around and found a bunch auf exhaust. Larini, Roadster Sport, Bastuck, I.L. Exhaust, Remus etc....

The time i found the Remus Powersound Duplex Exhaust i was fascinated by the option to control the loudness with the valve control system. Of course there aftermarket part to control the sound of the exhaust like the Apexi control system. Also i knew the Remus Exhaust have a realy deep sound, but i was looking for a more snappish sounding.

I didn't find someone who had this exhaust installed to his/her MX-5, so i just dared it and suprise suprise. A snappish and just as loud as i want :)
